Designed by DOP ARCHITECTURE, Wild Bird House, that located in Budapest, Hungary , has managed to complete a residential project that was repeatedly threatened by the ‘extremes of Budapest zoning codes’ – largely height related. The €350,000 property was constructed in a street of buildings averaging in height at 10m where the current code requires a maximum of 4.5m in height.
Designed for a family of five, the 382 sq m residence is layered over two floors and has been created to follow LEED principles – allegedly one of the first buildings in Hungary to do so. The external landscaping is entirely supported by onsite water harvesting whilst the lawns are formed of meadow grasses in order to reduce the need for regular mowing. Wild Bird House won Hungarian design magazine OCTOGON’s Elevation of the Year Award in 2009.
