Located in Valletta, Malta, Vodafone Valletta was designed by Matthew J Mercica Design Architect. A dramatic punch into the historical fabric of Valletta, the concept for this new Vodaphone store was to create an umbilical like effect whereby the people would pass from the mainstream of Republic Street to the heart of the establishment by means of a circulatory corridor. This effect was achieved by an organically curving corner and the vibrant, glossy colour scheme.
This vessel then continues into the store and then dynamically loops back on itself to create a striking display unit for top end products.
The brief was to upgrade the current building and façade to reflect the corporate identity and corporate responsibility of Vodafone Malta. The premises’ common entrance was designed to be directional with marketing appeal to the retail outlet and not the ancillary circulation.
The retail requirements were for phone displays and storage, four to five customer service counters, internet area & data station; and two to three advertising screens usable in landscape and portrait. The ancillary requirements were located on the first and second floors and included a manager’s office with transparency, incorporating a meeting space, a staff room and facilities and a visitor’s centre and press room.
