That located in Almere, Netherlands, Villa L, at scenic nature reserve was designed by T,T,B, DuurzameArchitectuur, Much emphasis has been placed on keeping Villa L as sustainable as possible. Calculations show that the energy used by the building is 55% lower than the current Dutch regulations require, which are among the toughest regulations in Europe. To achieve this, the villa has its own heat pump installation which not only supplies the heating and the warm water, but also deals with the ventilation. The timber frame elements with 35cm of insulation make it a highly insulated dwelling. The precise detailing and manufacturing keep the villa air tight, in order to prevent warm air leaking out.
The windy location at the edge of the lake makes wind turbines profitable. A small wind turbine has been installed on the roof of the villa, where Photo Voltaic panels have also been placed, giving the property its own electricity supply.
