University of Cambridge Selwyn College Regeneration Phase II that located in Cambridge, United Kingdom, was designed by Porphyrios Associates. One half of the prestigious Oxbridge duo, Cambridge University is renowned for its historical surroundings and its top-grade graduates, regarded as one of the top universities in the UK. Selwyn College within the university is undergoing a five-stage development plan and today celebrates the completion of phase two which brings an appropriately neo-classical student residence to fruition.
Porphyrios Associates of London worked hard to ensure the design would be sympathetic to Selwyn’s existing Victorian and Edwardian architecture, creating contrast with the modern architecture of the University’s adjacent Sidgwick Site. The main structure is a £7.5 million L-shaped student residence in red brick, complete with 40 en-suite bedrooms and 9 shared kitchens.
The five phases to the development masterplan will eventually see the construction of a new college library and an auditorium, in addition to the student accommodation and administration facilities. The buildings are organised around a new court for the College, named Ann’s Court, in honour of Mrs Ann Dobson who together with her husband Dr Chris Dobson donated £5million through the Ann D Foundation.
