The University Hospital designed by Ellerbe Becket, an AECOM Company is located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. UH aims to improve patient health and education, while being a catalyst for innovation. It is designed to contribute to the well-being of the overall community, and to offer a sustainable healthcare delivery model for the region. The design provides an image of modern healthcare technology fused with cultural traditions and the forms of traditional, regional architecture. A modern translation of a traditional screen pattern is interpreted into a fritted, double-skinned glass wall on the exterior of the building, which provides interior environmental comfort.
The design repeats and translates this screen pattern throughout the facility, linking the interior and exterior into one holistic architectural expression. In a seamless transition from the exterior to the interior, large scale public spaces give patients and visitors a clear sense of place within UH.
