Southern Cross Station was designed by Grimshaw architects in association with Daryl Jackson Architects. Southern Cross Station that located in Melbourne, Australia, was awarded the prestigious Lubetkin Prize at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in London. The Lubetkin Prize is given annually to the most outstanding architecture design outside the European Union. The Southern Cross Station is the first Australian project to be awarded this distinguished prize. The station redevelopment was Grimshaw’s first Australian architecture project and persuaded the practice to remain in Australia and form a permanent base to complement its offices in London and New York.

Southern Cross Station was also awarded an RIBA International Award. RIBA Awards are given to projects that have high architectural standards and make a substantial contribution to the local environment. The awards are annual, and have been running continuously since 1966. The award builds on Grimshaw’s recent successes at the RIBA awards. The practice won an International award last year for its work on Zurich International Airport in Switzerland and a European award for the Caixa Galicia Art Foundation in Northern Spain. Keith Brewis as Partner In Charge of Grimshaw’s Melbourne office, oversaw the design and construction of Southern Cross Station.
