Siemens Park in Istanbul, Turkey

Siemens Park that located in Istanbul, Turkey, was designed by Emre Arolat Mimarlik Ltd. Sti, The main aspect of design was to construct the ‘Siemens Park’ that included the production, administration and social buildings rather than creating Siemens’s new, chic and haughty industrial complex. The location of the site, its very specific view, its potential of being far from the mad crowd by its place at the far edge of GOSB were fruitful inputs that added meaning to this attempt.

Architectural existence channels of the production plants that cover vast area on the site because of their functions and social areas planned in relation to them get their power form the gebze stone that is also used as landscape material. This choice will provide both the economy in the construction investment at important amount of the project and benefit of no need for maintenance in time at large surfaces of building. It is considered that these areas will be constructed with a simple and modular grid structural system. The completion of all spaces with a conventional reinforced concrete system other than areas that need large spans with steel roof structure will be easy and economical.

The most important aspect of this strategy is the location of production plants and administration blocks on the highest part of the site, creation of the acces to these buildings by the road passing at the highest level of the site and arrangement of the closed areas formed under the production plants because of the relation with teh topography as social spaces that create strong relation with landscape. It is supposed that future production plant that is to be located at the reserved area will be also on highest levels.

Low-storey ‘green’ office blocks designed in this context are located to use the large platform over the production plants and to create strong relations with each other. It is clear that these layout decisions that are supposed to be optimised depending on the current inputs may be revised according to needs of Siemens by keeping main characteristics and general qualities of the project. At this point, the main criteria are the principal decisions that Siemens will give depending on the form of its new establishment’s existence.
