The Sheffield Festival Centre designed by Jason King Architect is located in Sheffield Festival Centre. is a media centre and creative work space facility and urban gateway building, a landmark at the entrance to the city and a national icon for cinema and the media industries. Activity within the building shows through the billowing, translucent, ETFE ‘pillow’ facade, which changes with the light during the day.
At night the facade has an integrated LED display system for an urban scale, graphic interface, signage and lighting system. The new project extends cinema and new media into the urban realm – the facade projects physically into the square and projects media into it, turning the square into an urban auditorium. The new building utilizes the latest sustainable materials and technologies.
