Shahida Tower in Dhaka, Bangladesh

January 04, 2011 Category: Cultural, Public Buildings

That located in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Shahida Tower, was designed by Oli Mahmud Architects. The scheme contains a 10-storey apartment with two luxurious living units at each level while the ground level serves for parking and public access to the building. The vertical core and fire exit is placed at the rear side to maximise the front south-facing exposure. This allows the summer breeze and winter sun at regular habitable areas of the living quarters.

The basic design strategy of the project is manipulated by a casually placed green balcony at the front, whereby each unit can enjoy their own personal green corner. The three-dimensional array of the veranda at alternative altitudes creates a random effect on the façade, which has been unified by inserting a rectangular outer frame. This provides a bold and distinct architectural expression of the project.
