March 08, 2010 Category: Cultural, Public Buildings

The Seattle Art Museum is located in Seattle, United States. The Seattle Art Museum Downtown, designed by Brad Cloepfil of Portland based Allied Works Architecture opened to the public on 5 May. The 118,000 square foot steel and glass expansion takes place on four floors with additional floors for future expansion. Stainless steel “shutters” on the building’s exterior provide diffuse light for the building’s interior spaces. The project adds 70 % more gallery space, grand new civic spaces, a new public entrance and an expanded restaurant and museum store. The first two floors of the Museum will be free to the public. The expansion seamlessly connects to the existing museum, designed by Venturi Rauch and Scott Brown in 1991.
