Safdarjung Hospital in New Dheli, India

January 05, 2011 Category: Commercial Building, Hospital

Located in New Dheli, India, Safdarjung Hospital was designed by TRC+BSA. Existing spaces lack proper circulation and waiting space, have narrow layouts and provide insufficient beds and support space. Site concerns include dilapidated buildings, lack of parking, and lack of support for systems and services.

The new world-class facility will provide seven patient towers with integral surgery suites ringing an open air courtyard. Each major building will function independently in terms of dietary, material management and building systems.

The project unites the best of Indian healthcare and Western medicine- a collection of specialty hospitals combined to form an integrated medical complex. The design solution is driven by culture and environment–connected indoor / outdoor space provides daylight to occupied spaces but is controlled with screens and shades.
