The Safdarjung Hospital designed by TRC+BSA is located in New Dheli, India. The new world-class facility will provide seven patient towers with integral surgery suites ringing an open air courtyard. Each major building will function independently in terms of dietary, material management and building systems. The design will allow barrier-free movement and a range of flexible patient environments adaptable to need. Extensive underground parking will allow separation of vehicular and pedestrian movement.
The project unites the best of Indian healthcare and Western medicine- a collection of specialty hospitals combined to form an integrated medical complex. The design solution is driven by culture and environment–connected indoor / outdoor space provides daylight to occupied spaces but is controlled with screens and shades. Vegetated roof areas along with the landscaped central courtyard collect and manage rain water. Program areas will be identified by texture and colour- traditional deep blues, purples, yellow and greens. Non-linear organisation of spaces helps to gradually unfold spaces.
