The architectural design is Redbrook Hayes Primary School, located in Rugeley, Staffs, United Kingdom, and was designed by Walters and Cohen Architects. Our team was asked by the Joint Schools Property Unit to design a form of primary school, including nursery and branch libraries. Our experience designing an elementary school for the DfES Exemplar has proven extremely valuable in understanding what is needed in schools today and what might be needed in the next 20 years. Our design for the Primary school was set up general principles of a model to fit the site, while also responding to feedback from public consultation. The branch library is physically connected to the school and can go from the school hall or from the front page of the new school – a public space for schools and libraries together.

The schools and libraries can operate independently but also can work together allows students to access the school library. Similarly, the public can use the school auditorium after school hours without opening the rest of the school. As a result, toilets and changing facilities are located off the hall to encourage community use. Baby’s room has been as close as possible to the public pages of parents to provide easy access without disturbing the entire school, as operating elements of two different schedules. School is the heart of a dynamic, flexible regions where many different activities can occur. Redbrook Hayes Primary School is now in use.
