PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics Bid Oval in Gangneung, Gangwon, Korea

Located in Gangneung, Gangwon, Korea, PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics Bid Oval was designed by Studio Zoppini Associate has composed concept designs of a unique public space for the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics bid. Working with structural engineers Expedition Engineering Ltd, the design studio looks to provide the town of Gangneung with a sporting facility of high functional and architectural quality, including a skating track that enables the highest level of performance for the 2018 Olympics.

The proposal includes a flexible multipurpose building which can be used post-Games for a variety of sporting and community events, exhibitions and conventions. It also looks to generate a new centrepiece of ‘an urban, social and human re-qualification of The Gangneung’ taking full advantage of the natural surroundings and local fauna, such as a grove of pine trees and adjoining hills.
