The Parag Shah’s Residence designed by Matharoo Associates, located in the industrial city of Surat, India with its recent history of plague, riots, earthquake and floods, and presently dealing with uncontrollably booming economy; the irregular site lines generate a skewed box in concrete as if to ward off all externally disturbing forces.
Nature-trapping volumes along with the ‘SITE’ induced angles and the ‘USE’ derived materials; intimate wood clad bedrooms, chic travertine-clad formal living and rugged rough red sandstone courtyard, results in an ever-changing chimera witnessed by the family. All grid lines converge into lone tree in the central courtyard acting as the navel – the cosmic axis of energy concentrations!
