NICTA Building – Site D in Sydney, Australia

July 01, 2010 Category: Commercial Building, Office

Designed by Cox, NICTA Building – Site D is located in Sydney, Australia. The NICTA responds sensitively to its heritage context whilst employing a well considered configuration, environmental initiatives and technology appropriate to a workplace of the future. The adaptive re-use of several adjacent heritage buildings at the Australian Technology Park (ATP) near central Sydney, establishes a unique industrial character in contrast to its Technological ambitions.

The building has been designed to achieve a high level of sustainability and reduced energy use per square metre, by minimising solar heat loads with fixed horizontal louvres. This approach controls glare and reflectivity and maximises usability. Six external service cores reduce exposure to low angle sunlight on the eastern and western facades and reveal the building’s mechanics. By locating all services on the building’s perimeter, a large open plan internal workspace is achieved.
