Mercy Medical Plaza designed by RTKL Associates Inc, is located in Charlotte, N,C, United States. Shell and core construction is now complete for Mercy Medical Plaza, the newest facility at Carolinas Medical Center- Mercy in Charlotte. The $22 million (US) project, which was designed by the Chicago office of RTKL, will expand the hospital’s surgery capabilities and provide additional medical office space and parking when it opens later this year.
The first floor of the 150,000 sq ft building has 12 operating rooms to replace existing surgery facilities. A total of 75,000 sq ft of tenant space will augment hospital services and provide much needed private physician space.
As all four above-grade levels connect to the main hospital, the buildings have inherent reciprocity. For example, the second floor will be home to a large orthopedic practice with immediate access to the hospital’s radiology department.
RTKL designed the building to be consistent with the rest of the campus, yet have a fresh, modern look. Since the existing facilities date from the 1920s through ‘60s, RTKL mirrored the materials and mass of those buildings, but created a clean, contemporary image with exposed steel, metal panels, aluminum and glass. The resulting updated appearance projects a new hospital face to busy Caswell Road.
