Lake Dragon Residential Development in Guangzhou, China

June 03, 2010 Category: Housing, Residential

Designed by Ronald Lu & Partners, Lake Dragon Residential Development is located in Guangzhou, China. The development is in the scenic Dragon Lake International Community in Huadu, close to the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, the beautiful lake and the golf course. The first phase has approximately 1.3 million square feet of gross floor area. The Lake Dragon is surrounded by 13.3-square-mile mountainous terrain by a 2.5-square-mile lake in a scenic site. The development blends well with the natural setting, offering a modern European-style village for a tranquil living environment.

The first phase has 2.58 million sq ft of site area with over 240 modern two- and three-storey detached and semi-detached villas ranging from 3,700 to over 9,400 sq ft. Each villa has a garden, basement and parking area. Large villas over 9,420 sq ft have a Chinese quadrangle (siheyuan) style with traditional courtyards and side houses.

To dissolve boundary between the site and its environment, each individual unit has been carefully orientated to ensure either a mountain or golf course view, along with forecourts and side garden. To achieve the design concept of merging a sequential experience into its functions yet merging to its setting, the architects plan the accommodations / functions in stratified layers. These layers of spaces allow each function to be visually linked and he physical boundary of interior and exterior is blurred.

The Client also commissioned the same project architect to custom design a stand alone Sales Office Complex on both architecture and interiors for sales and showcase the project. The complex is designed with three pavilions embracing a reflective pool in the center. In contrast to many other sales offices that are done in a total enclosure, the Lake Dragon Sales Office is intentionally created with an open and airy glass architecture capturing natural light, landscape and the water surroundings. The almost transparent architecture turns itself into a glowing crystal over the reflection pool during evening. The interior design emphasizes a spatial layering experience in synergy of close and open spaces that connects various functions. It is further garnished by a modern French sophistication: black and white marble flooring, giant leave sculptures in champagne gold gilding, a solid gold color cylinder theatre, bright, airy and high ceiling main hall featured with a 6×8 meters three dimensional crystal chandelier in anchoring the model display of the residential development property, and Italian marble grand staircase leading to the up stair VIP lounges.
