August 24, 2010 Category: Public Buildings, Sports

Designed by Allies and Morrison, International Broadcast Centre, Olympics Site is located in London, United Kingdom. The Olympics ‘Big Build’ is taking shape following the completion of the the 4,500 tonne steel frame of the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) in Hackney. Together with the Main Press Centre (MPC) Allies and Morrison’s IBC design will support 20,000 media personnel throughout the 2012 Olympics which will be hosted in several locations throughout London.

The IBC’s 275 m long, 104 m wide frame is big enough to house five jumbo jets, but has been completed in just ten weeks. The foundations are also complete, roof lining works are under way, and work on the flooring and cladding is soon to commence. At the MPC build the foundations are halfway there and set to complete this Autumn.

Following the Olympics the ‘Big Build’ structures will create just short of 900,000 sq ft of business space with flexible space being created by separating the structures into individual units. Some design amendments will also be included in the legacy plans such as replacing cladding with windows.
