July 14, 2010 Category: Apartment, Residential

IDU Terrace is situated on the outskirts of Mishima City, japan Desigened by Muramatsu Architect, overlooking Mt Fuji. In a five-storey building surrounding a long square planted courtyard, the corridors around the courtyard connect the various transparent spaces to bed-sitters and small dayrooms.

Day rooms, dining rooms and terraces are opened to the inside and outside at north, south, east and west of the four floors from the second to fifth. Bringing the outside world inside the architectural environment made it possible to create a variety of spaces with different dimensions and degrees of intimacy and public openness. Numerous opportunities for private retreat exist alongside a hierarchical system of semi-public and public communal areas much like in a village, allowing residents to retain their independence and seek out favourite corners.

The architects aim was to create an environment where not only aged residents but also their families and carers are inspired through experiencing seasonal transitions and by the beauty of the scenery, making for a joyful experience and allowing the recovery of body and mind.
