Located in Dorset, United Kingdom. Higher Farm was designed by Haddow Partnership Ltd. The new house is positioned close to the original house, but slightly downhill and partly built into the ground. The new house respects the contours of the landscape and moulds into the hillside with the retained mature hedgerow as a backdrop. When viewed from a distance to the south, the house is visualised as part of the landscape.

The new house has a contemporary appearance both externally and internally. Natural and sustainable materials have been used throughout and where possible, energy and resource saving techniques have been employed. Red and brown faced bricks have been used as a solid base to the building, coloured render to upper ground level and glazed panels above. Heat treated pine cladding is applied to the circular stair tower, metal windows and oak doors are used throughout.

The shape of the roof is taken from the Dutch barn, which forms part of the grouping of the farm buildings. The barrel-vaulted roof is kept as a simple and powerful shape, which has an agricultural language and is treated in a contemporary fashion, finished with a single ply roof covering visually similar to lead.
