Grand Hyatt Shenzhen in Shenzhen, China

May 16, 2011 Category: Hotel

The Grand Hyatt Shenzhen designed by RTKL is located in Shenzhen, China. The property features a series of terraced levels stemming from a base podium and is divided into wedges, which create a geometrically curved design. The hotel is unique as it has upside down layout. The front desk, main lobby and signature restaurants are positioned on the rooftop level. Guests can also use the 33rd floor to check-in, with the guestrooms below. The 50-metre glass atrium on top of the tower, or ‘lantern,’ is inspired by the mountainous region and the four points of the client’s company logo.

Referencing to the mountain peaks to the south, the tower’s form emits glowing light throughout the rooftop dining areas and garden terrace. Guests are treated to views of the east, southeast and of Hong Kong. The tower’s façade employs a vocabulary of sophistication, simplicity and elegance, while the architectural language is forward, aggressive and inspires movement.
