The Fontana was designed by N MAEDA ATELIER is located in Numazu-City, Shizuoka, Japan. This project is inspired by the Italian painter Lucio Fontana experiences with works in which he creates breaks in the blank canvas with palette knives.
The consequence is that the tearing leads to an ex-post discovery of a situation where “the pulling force is exerted on the surface of the canvas, which was previously not visible to the eye. Project ‘Fontana’ is to replace the “canvas” with “air”.
The initially homogeneous volume of air on the site is torn by 7 arched devices (garden). “Nature” would flow through these cuts inside to attract ever-changing contour lines.
