Farm House in Pukekawa, New Zealand
Farm House, located in Pukekawa, New Zealand, was designed by KAMERMANS & Co ARCHITECTS Ltd as a series of pavilions aligned along an east-west circulation ‘spine’. Living or ‘people’ spaces are situated on the north side, with ‘service’ spaces located on the south side. The simple mono-pitched structures, clad in board and batttens, echo the local vernacular.
The house has a number os sustainability features; a timber framed construction on a concrete floor-slab, super insulation and double glazing are installed throughout the house, with limited east, west and south glazing. Extensive north glazing, with appropriately sized eaves, allow winter sun to heat the tiled and insulated floorslab which provides cooling during summer.
High level opening windows in north glazing provide natural stack ventilation, while solar panels for provide energy for domestic hot water, underfloor heating and pool heating, with a heatpump back-up. A self-sufficient water supply is provided through rainwater storage and bore; all wastewater is treated onsite for garden irrigation.
