The Department store for House of Fraser  designed by Stanton Williams is located in Bristol, United Kingdom. Stanton Williams have created a signature building of powerful visual interest. The design solution was to create a sculpturally strong urban but earthly form, dramatically inspired by shifting tectonic blocks or plates. The sumptious detailing of the bronze panels and etched glass by one of the UK’s foremost artists, Susanna Heron, will provide a rich visual experience at pedestrian level, with the subtly textured skin of the building presenting a final intriguing layer.

The exterior cladding comprises a sensuous palette of organic, tactile materials including Portland stone embedded with real fossils, figured bronze panels, and shimmering hand carved glass. A cathedral-sized glass window has been designed so that light streaming into the building creates a dynamic, and constantly changing, series of shapes and shadows as an intrinsic feature of the interior wall design.
