The CSSS Gatineau Hospital, Radiotherapy and Oncology Treatment Centre designed by Services intégrés Lemay et associés inc is located in Gatineau, Canada. A glass corridor extends from the central atrium to the brachytherapy pavilion, wrapping around an exterior space designed to contain a future healing garden. This pavilion houses the brachytherapy treatment room, a recovery room, support services, offices and an administrative area. Two new linear accelerators are joined with the two existing accelerators by a new shared reception and waiting area where natural daylight filters in from large windows above grade level. Each pod is designed with a distinct colour code to facilitate wayfinding.
The medical oncology treatment suite on the second floor of the main pavilion is filled with daylight and offers additional views into the central atrium. Thirty-six treatment / infusion stations are arranged in five pods of six to eight chairs with decentralised nursing / observation stations for each pod. A central nurse station, a pharmacy, isolation rooms, a volunteer staff lounge and a conference room complete the needs of the suite. Extensive use of daylight and fluid interconnecting spaces create a bright, uplifting environment conducive to healing and well-being for both visitors and staff.
