In order to construct the state-of-the-art gateway, the existing Kings Building on James Street West and Avon Street would have to be demolished. This is a far cry from the College’s extensive £68m redevelopment plan put forward two years ago which proposed a complete redesign, saving only the recently constructed Music and Performing Arts facility by Aaron Evans Architects. The proposal was denied funding from the Governments Building Schools for the Future programme which was later axed in the economic downturn.
Stride Treglown Tektus’ clean-cut form includes a bespoke reception area, new hair and beauty salons, a dedicated Higher Education centre and a College shop. The complex will also bring all Student Services under one roof and whilst the plans depict a three storey facility, only the first and second floors will provide access to the neighbouring Macaulay Building.
