In London, United Kingdom, Four Chapman Taylor schemes picked up five awards at retail property organisation BCSC’s Gold Awards 2008. Cabot Circus received the highest accolade of the night, the Supreme Gold Award. This is the second year in a row that a Chapman Taylor scheme has won Supreme Gold – Princesshay in Exeter won last year.
Neil Varnham, Chairman of the BCSC Gold Awards Jury and Head of Distribution & Business Development at Henderson Global Investors says “Liverpool ONE is probably one of the most challenging regeneration projects of our time – achieving the maintenance of the urban grain, with a revitalised retail offer linking the scheme to the dock area. It is undoubtedly a benchmark for the UK shopping centre industry in demonstrating successful delivery of the Government’s urban agenda. It has truly regenerated one of our most well known cities. Cabot Circus is a truly excellent example of a mixed use scheme. The attention to detail throughout the scheme is exemplary and is seen in the design detailing, the signature dome roof, the artwork, the shop fronts and the customer facilities.”
The Trafford Centre in Manchester was awarded BCSC’s Established Centre Gold. St Pancras International won the In-Town Retail scheme (300,000 sq ft or less) category. The Jury praised the design for bringing a timeless quality to the grade 1 listed building. Cabot Circus and Highcross, were two of the winners in the In-Town Retail Scheme (more than 300,000 sq ft) category.
