The Austin City Hall and Public Plaza was designed by Antoine Predock Architects PC is located in Austin, Texas, United States. The Austin City Hall and Public Plaza is located at the edge of the area of dynamic storage on the shores of downtown Austin’s Town Lake. The project is dominated by landscape and incorporates limestone, copper, glass, water and shade to create a living space of the city. The building of 118,000 square feet, contains several city departments with the Mayor, City Manager, City Council offices, Council Chambers, and a coffee shop and a city, along streets in urban Second. Austin’s Warehouse District is quickly transformed into a dense network of restaurants, nightclubs, housing areas and mid-rise office. A massive arcing Lueders Limestone wall, emerging from bedrock at the lower level parking garage below, anchors the project site. Morphing out of the wall is a limestone base that contains the first two stories. A copper skin, resting on the limestone base and capped with a folded copper roof, shelters the upper levels. As the arcing through the wall of the building, it creates an open four-story lobby through which coats as bridges at each level. A copper ceiling reflection on the Lobby bounced light in the gathering space below. The plaza winds its way around the limestone peninsulas of the terraced building. The water flows through a group of monumental limestone blocks on the site to return symbolically close to the lake through a vortex. Amphitheater seating spilling cons terraces can be used informally or to view performances on a stage in limestone. The amphitheater is shaded by a photovoltaic glass trellis, supplying ten percent of the power of the building. Environmentally intelligent approaches in this project, he received a Gold LEED certification.
