120 Moorgate in London, United Kingdom

February 17, 2011 Category: Cultural

Designed by Allies and Morrison, 120 Moorgate is located in London, United Kingdom. The building occupies a prominent corner site at a principle point of entry into the City of London from the north, and provides of office and retail accommodation over 2 basement levels, ground level and eight upper storeys. The form of the proposal has developed out of consideration given to the nature of the surrounding city fabric and neighbouring buildings, and to the site’s location at a northern gateway into the City.

In addition, a need to respect the Rights of Light currently enjoyed by the immediate neighbours has had a degree of influence over the form. The façade of the building is composed of an inner glass layer encased in a grided metal framework infilled with louvres, providing solar shading. A series of white cast glass panels are then set in a syncopated pattern that falls indiscriminately across fold lines in the façade.
