1 Mont’ Kiara in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

1 Mont’ Kiara, was designed by SPARCH, that located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is part of an extensive mixed-use project spread over 3.4 acres of freehold land. The project is comprised of a 20 storey office tower, a 34 storey block of designer officer suites, luxury serviced apartments and the 1 Mont’ Kiara retail facility.

A geometric matrix spans the roof of the mall; a triangulated transparent canopy constructed using ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) to allow vast amounts of natural light to illuminate the retail space below. Not only does this build a relationship between interior and exterior spaces, but the stream of natural sunlight decreases the need for electrically generated light, hence lowering the mall’s carbon footprint.

The choice of ETFE also enables the venue to adapt its surroundings using a range of vibrant colours. The lightweight pillow roof reacts to lighting and projection, transforming the colour of the ceiling to cater for any events, activities and performances in the atrium beneath.
